![]() “And I tried to leave, and she locked me up… then you came,” she explained. “And, um, I realized that she wasn’t actually my mother, and she had been using me for my hair this whole time.” It wasn’t necessarily a lie, it was just not the entire truth. She cleared her throat, looking up at Eugene. She had dreamed of seeing the world all her life, and being Princess would just mean more time confined between walls. She had been trapped all her life, the last thing she wanted was another tower. As Princess, she would just be trapped again. She thought about the castle she had seen in town the day before. Then later I realized-” she snapped her mouth shut midsentence, looking deep into Eugene’s worried eyes.Īt that moment, she realized that telling him that she was the Lost Princess would change everything. “Well… after the lanterns when you… when I was alone, these two men started trying to attack me, then Moth- um, Gothel saved me from them and brought me back here. She knew he deserved an explanation, but she wasn’t sure she wanted to relive any of it. “Blondie, what happened after we got separated?” Eugene asked, his mouth forming a tight line as he looked at the handcuffs and broken glass strewn across the floor. She was so much happier knowing she was about to leave this tower and never come back. She felt 100 pounds lighter now, and not just because her hair was a literal weight off her shoulders. Rapunzel laughed as Pascal folded his arms. She picked him up and patted his head as he grinned at her.Įugene walked over to them and knelt down as Pascal climbed onto Rapunzel’s shoulder. With everything happening, he had slipped her mind for a moment. ![]() She couldn’t believe she had forgotten he was there. “Pascal!” she exclaimed, running over to him and dropping to her knees. ![]() She whipped her head toward the noise and gasped. ![]() She smiled, starting to walk back over to him when she heard a squeak coming from the ground. “I can pick locks,” he explained sheepishly, brandishing the tool he used. She turned around to look at Eugene, hoping he had some idea, only to see that he was already free from the cuffs. She searched around the room in various compartments but came up empty. She opened the drawer and rifled around in it, hoping to find a key, but to no avail. Rapunzel tiptoed around the glass of the broken mirror and made her way to the vanity. She wasn’t exactly keen on going down and searching through the ashes of what she once was, though. She distantly wondered if it might have been in her mother’s- well, not her mother, in Gothel’s - cloak. “Oh! You’re still handcuffed!” she said quickly, standing up abruptly to look for the key. Or, rather, she did lose him, she just managed to get him back by some stroke of luck. She felt her entire body start to shake, thinking about how she had almost lost him. “No, it’s just… wow, Blondie, you really did bring me back from the dead,” he marveled, still in shock. “Never been better,” he said, his hand grazing the spot of his stomach where his wound had previously been. She smiled, tears welling up in her eyes again. “Are you okay?” he asked, brushing her hair out of her face. She took a deep breath and straightened up, looking at Eugene again to make sure that he really was alive and it wasn’t some kind of crazy dream. Five minutes ago she thought that she would never get the chance to kiss him, so feeling him return that kiss was the most magical feeling in the world.Īfter a few moments, she sat up and wiped away the tears that had been streaming down her face for what felt like centuries. She grabbed his shirt and pulled him into a kiss, feeling like her heart was beating out of her chest. All she knew was that Eugene was alive, and she was too overwhelmed with joy and relief to try to reason with why it happened. Rapunzel wasn’t entirely sure what just happened, but truthfully, she didn’t care.
